At Dillbadin Primary School, camps and excursions are an integral part of our commitment to providing rich, authentic learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Carefully aligned with our curriculum, these opportunities enable students to apply their learning in real-world contexts, deepen their understanding, and develop the skills needed for future success.
Our excursions are thoughtfully designed to enhance learning across all curriculum areas. By connecting classroom learning with real-life experiences, students are encouraged to think critically, solve problems, ask questions, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.
Students regularly participate in local excursions that make learning relevant and practical. For example, students visit Boronia shops as part of Mathematics units focused on money, budgeting, financial literacy, and purchasing decisions. These authentic experiences allow students to apply their numeracy skills in real-world situations while building confidence and independence.
To enrich learning further, students attend a range of educational excursions across Melbourne, including visits to the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, and Collingwood Children's Farm. These experiences support learning across the Arts, Science, Humanities, Health, and STEM while exposing students to diverse environments, ideas, and opportunities.
From Grade 3 onwards, students participate in a progressive camp program that supports both academic and personal growth. As students move through the school, camp experiences increase in duration and complexity, providing opportunities to develop independence, resilience, leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
For our youngest learners, a school sleepover offers a positive introduction to overnight experiences in a familiar, supportive environment, helping build confidence and strengthen connections with peers and staff.
Our senior students participate in a unique camp program that alternates between a City Experience Camp and an Adventure Camp. During the City Experience Camp, Melbourne becomes the classroom as students explore cultural, historical, educational, and civic landmarks throughout the city. Students develop independence, navigation skills, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of the opportunities available within our broader community.
In alternate years, students participate in an Adventure Camp designed to challenge them both physically and mentally. Through activities that promote teamwork, resilience, leadership, communication, and perseverance, students learn to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and develop the skills needed to overcome challenges. These experiences foster self-reliance, adaptability, and a growth mindset, preparing students for a successful transition to secondary school and beyond.
Together, these senior camp experiences provide authentic opportunities for students to apply their learning, strengthen relationships, develop leadership capabilities, and grow as confident, capable, and responsible young people
Through camps and excursions, students develop essential capabilities such as communication, teamwork, adaptability, critical thinking, and self-management. These experiences not only enrich academic learning but also contribute to the development of confident, capable, and resilient young people who are prepared to embrace future challenges and opportunities.
At Dillbadin Primary School, we believe that meaningful learning happens both inside and outside the classroom. Our camps and excursions are intentionally designed to complement our high-quality teaching programs, foster student growth, and inspire a lifelong love of learning.
