At Dillbadin Primary School, our Mathematics program is based on the Victorian Curriculum Mathematics Version 2.0, which focuses on building deep mathematical understanding, fluency, and problem-solving skills. We aim to equip students with the tools to make sense of the world around them through meaningful, relevant maths learning.
The curriculum is structured around six key content strands:
Number
Algebra
Measurement
Space
Statistics
Probability
Mathematical Thinking, Problem Solving and Reasoning are integrated throughout each strand, ensuring students not only know how to do the maths, but understand why and when to use it.
Daily Maths lessons, where students are actively engaged in hands-on, purposeful tasks
Whole-class instruction, as well as targeted small group work based on student needs
Open-ended tasks and real-life problem-solving activities that promote critical thinking and creativity
Ongoing assessment and monitoring to track growth and plan for next steps in learning
Build strong understanding of mathematical concepts through engaging, hands-on experiences
Provide differentiated learning to ensure every student is challenged and supported
Develop a genuine enjoyment of mathematics, where all students feel successful
Encourage both independent thinking and collaborative problem-solving
Foster confidence in using mathematical knowledge in everyday situations
Equip students with a range of mental and written strategies for solving problems efficiently and accurately
At Dillbadin Primary School, we believe every student can be a capable and confident mathematician when they are taught with clarity, challenge, and care.
